Poplar Bluff fisherman sets record

Posted:

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A southeastern Missouri man is a state record-holder thanks to a fish he caught last month.

The Department of Conservation announced this week that Tyler Goodale, of Poplar Bluff, took the record-breaking spotted sucker April 3 at the Duck Creek Conservation Area.

Goodale's fish was 18.2 inches long and weighed 3.65 pounds. The Conservation Department says the previous record-holder weighed slightly more than 2 pounds and was caught in 1992 at Wappapello Lake.

The spotted sucker is a common fish generally found in lowlands of southeastern Missouri and nearby sections of the Ozarks. It prefers clear, warm water with plentiful vegetation and little to no current.
