City of Jonesboro set to buy Wolverine property

JONESBORO, AR  (KAIT) – The Jonesboro City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to purchase multiple properties formerly owned by Wolverine Slipper Group, Inc. The council, in a specially called meeting Thursday afternoon, gave Mayor Harold Perrin approval to purchase five tracts of land for $38,978.45, the payment of back taxes owed on the properties.

The property will be paid for through the Jonesboro Capital Improvement Fund, council documents stated.

Perrin said the future vision for Jonesboro is to connect Main Street to the campus of Arkansas State University, in order to revitalize

The deal will be closed on Monday.

Once the deal is signed, Perrin said the properties will be cleaned up, and the city will look at possibly demolishing the plant.
