Westside Fine Arts Center opens

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-The Westside Fine Arts Center has officially opened. Faculty and students have been getting acquainted with the new facility for the past couple of weeks and are hard at work preparing for their first official performance.

Senior Dustin Williamson has been a part of the theatre department since his freshman year. He said their new auditorium is going to provide them with invaluable experience.

"Before we couldn't really do tech, like lights and sound," said Williamson. "All we had was a small off sound board and a few lights.  Now, we have the real deal.  To be in here it feels like you're a real professional."

"We wanted to do bigger productions and more sound and lighting and we couldn't do that in our old space," said Brooke Chapman, Westside Theatre Director.  "So, this space has really given us a place where we can do a lot of really cool technical things we couldn't do before."

The building took nearly five million dollars and over a year to complete.

Westside's first production of Alice and Wonderland and Back Again will take place Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
