Reward offered after Walnut Ridge airport vandalized

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The FBI and the Walnut Ridge Police Department are investigating a vandalism incident at the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport where nearly $60,000 worth of damage was done.

"A couple of four wheelers got out on the runway, busted runway lights and some lights on the tower," said Walnut Ridge Police Chief Richy Thatcher.

Several items were damaged but nothing was stolen.

"They just moved them to a different location outside of the airport," said Thatcher.

Thatcher said the airport commission has already talked about adding extra security.

"It was discussed yesterday in their meeting but it's out of my hands what they decide to do," he said.

Those responsible will face felony charges. Police are hoping a cash reward of $500 will help investigators find the suspects.

"It's going to cost citizens of Lawrence County the money to replace this, so anyone who can help solve it will be beneficial," said Thatcher.
