Craighead Co. teaching women how to protect themselves

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-  The Craighead County Sheriff's Department is working to teach the women of Region 8 how to protect themselves by holding a self-defense class.

The Craighead County Sheriff's Department is hosting the women's self defense class this weekend.

Sheriff Marty Boyd said they decided to organize the class due to the number of phone calls from Region 8 women asking for both help and information. "This is a class that myself and several other officers have talked about for the last year and a half trying to coordinate and get something started," Boyd said. "You know, we help people that have questions, how to defend themselves, how to work through certain situations. Everyone has worries now about how safe they are, whether they're at home, out shopping in the community.  We have numerous calls weekly about where someone can go to sign up for classes or how to get information about things to do."

The class is free and will begin at 8:00 Saturday morning. For more information or to register, call the Craighead County Sheriff's Department at (870) 933 - 4551.
