"Today is the day we remember our fallen officers," said Chief Lonzo Ingram. "They gave their lives to protect the people and property of Greenville. We recognize them today, remember them, and at the same time we'll also present some awards to both the police department and the sheriff's department."

The department presented the Gary Wayne Heath Award today, named in honor of one of its fallen officers.

The City of Troy honored its fallen officers Tuesday with Police Chief James Ennis reading the roll call of honor. A total of five Troy officers have died in the line of duty dating back to 1905.

"It's been over 30 years since we lost an officer," said Lt. Bryan Weed. "We never want to forget the sacrifice that was made, and remember how quick life can be taken away."

Mayor Jason Reeves signed a proclamation last Friday to show appreciation for those who serve and protect the community.

Governor Robert Bentley joined the Alabama Fraternal Order of Police, founded in 1917, last Friday for a ceremony at the state capitol in Montgomery.
