McCrory native Collin Campbell named to All-Central Region team

SEARCY ( - Harding sophomore Collin Campbell became only the second Bison pitcher in the school's NCAA era to earn All-Region honors Thursday. Campbell was named Daktronics 2nd Team All-Central Region following a vote by the region's sports information directors.

Campbell, a native of McCrory, Ark., compiled a 9-2 record with a 2.43 ERA. He pitched 70 1-3 innings that included three complete-game shutouts, striking out 52 and walking only 13.

"This honor is well-deserved," said Dr. Patrick McGaha, Harding's head coach. "He put up great numbers, and for a sophomore, he did such a good job taking care of the 7-inning game in our Great American Conference series."

Campbell, who went 7-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 10 GAC starts, became only the fourth Harding pitcher with nine or more wins in a season and the first since Lucas Waddell won nine in 2011.

"All the glory goes to God," Campbell said of receiving the honor. "I pray several times before every game and tell myself that whatever happens is what God wanted. I also give credit to the position players. They make all the plays behind me and score all the runs."

Campbell and Justin Phillips (2007) are Harding's two pitchers to earn All-Region honors. Adam Darby (2011) was the last Bison to receive the award from Daktronics.
