City prepares for art, music festival

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Friday night kicks off the Arts and Music Festival in Downtown Paragould. Many businesses and attendees are excited the festival is back downtown after last year's move to the Greene County Fair Grounds.

"With Union Pacific's decision last year, we could no longer use the back parking lot for the festival or for anything other than parking," said Main street Paragould Director Gina Jarrett. "We thought it would be a good time to combine the best of [both]."

Jarrett said this way they can incorporate both art and music from Art and Stroll and Loose Caboose.

With the event being back in its original location, businesses are looking forward to the foot traffic.

"Our merchants and eatery owners are very excited that we're coming back downtown," said Jarrett. "We've made their life a lot easier because they'll have access through their rear door or side door instead of shutting down the whole downtown, as we did in the past."

Misty Hyde is the owner of Revolution and said she's looking forward to the business.

"I'm real excited and we're hoping this will bring business in and bring everybody downtown," she said.

Jarrett said the combination of the two events belong right where they both originated.

"It lost the feel of the festival with a different location," said Jarrett. "We knew if the festival was going to happen and we were going to organize it, that It needed to be downtown."
