JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Jonesboro mom was arrested Tuesday after police say she left her two children alone in a car while she shopped for groceries.

Shekelin Ann Taylor, 25, is charged with second degree endangering the welfare of a minor.

According to the initial police report, Taylor left her 3- and 4-year-old children in her car while she shopped at Hays, 2819 E. Nettleton.

Taylor told the arresting officer she had been in the store only five minutes.

But, the officer stated it had been 10 minutes since dispatch had been notified about the children.

Taylor reportedly told the officer she left the children in the locked car because "they weren't clothed properly."

She was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where she was held in lieu of a $1,040 surety bond.

The children were released into the custody of a family member.
