PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – Thanks to the help of an Arkansas representative, children will be attending this year's Summer Camp Academy at ASU that normally might not be able to.
People gathered together Wednesday afternoon at the ASU Paragould campus to honor State Representative Mary Broadaway. With Broadaway's help, much needed funding has been provided to ASU's Summer Camp Academy. She said she is honored and surprised to be receiving this recognition.
"The arts are extremely important and it's something we see in education that unfortunately goes by the way side. And I was an art history major in college. I love art and I think it's something that enhances our life," said Broadaway.
Beverly Gilbert, Dean of Continuing Education and Community Outreach, said "It's a wonderful opportunity for students to have access to educational enrichment in the summer. We know that loss of learning occurs and that students drop as much as 6 months of learning in the summer as a result of not having stimulation and this will provide them that stimulation.
Fifteen children will be getting scholarships to attend he ASU Summer Camp Academy this year.
