Two arrested after a failed attempt to avoid officers

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Two people ended up behind bars despite attempts to avoid police during a traffic stop.

Christopher Wade Southard, 38, faces numerous drug charges and Tracy Melinda Milligan, 40, is in jail for an outstanding warrant out of Craighead County.

According to the incident report, Officer Brett Nolen attempted to pull over a car on Arrowhead Farm Road on Tuesday night for speeding.

Officer Nolen said the car turned onto a side road with a few houses, which led him to believe the driver and his passenger were avoiding him.

The car eventually stopped and Officer Nolen made the driver, 38-year-old Christopher Wade Southard, and his passenger, 40-year-old Tracy Melinda Milligan, get out of the car.

During a search of the car, officers reportedly found marijuana in the passenger side floor board. Officer Nolen reported that it appeared the drug had been stomped into the carpet in an attempt to hide the substance.

Officers said they also found meth, items to make meth and drug paraphernalia.

Southard is charged with driving on a suspended drivers license, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Millard and Southard are in the Craighead County Detention Center.
