Two arrested after a failed attempt to avoid officers

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Two peopleended up behind bars despite attempts to avoid police during a traffic stop.

Christopher Wade Southard, 38,faces numerous drug charges and Tracy Melinda Milligan, 40, is in jail for an outstandingwarrant out of Craighead County.

According to the incident report,Officer Brett Nolen attempted to pull over a car on Arrowhead Farm Road onTuesday night for speeding.

Officer Nolen said the car turnedonto a side road with a few houses, which led him to believe the driver and hispassenger were avoiding him.

The car eventually stopped andOfficer Nolen made the driver, 38-year-old Christopher Wade Southard, and hispassenger, 40-year-old Tracy Melinda Milligan, get out of the car.

During a search of the car,officers reportedly found marijuana in the passenger side floor board. OfficerNolen reported that it appeared the drug had been stomped into the carpet in anattempt to hide the substance.

Officers said they also found meth,items to make meth and drug paraphernalia.

Southard is charged with drivingon a suspended drivers license, possession of a controlled substance andpossession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Millard and Southard are inthe Craighead County Detention Center.
