KENNETT, MO (KAIT) – Charges have been amended for a Kennett man accused of shooting and killing his wife.
Charges against Allan Branum of Kennett were amended in court Tuesday. Branum is now charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action, according to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff.
Sokoloff said the murder charge was elevated from second degree to first degree based on additional reports received by his office following the original charge being filed.
According to Captain Tim Trowbridge, Branum is accused of shooting his wife, Regina Branum, in the head with a .38-caliber revolver. Regina Branum was taken to the Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center in Memphis where she later died, according to Trowbridge.
Trowbridge said officers were called to 305 N. Jackson Street around 8:30 p.m. on May 22 in reference to the shooting.
Branum will appear in court again on August 12 at 9 a.m.
