BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KAIT) – The Butler County Sheriff's Office has confirmed an early Saturday morning shooting between a deputy and an individual.
According to the sheriff's office, an officer was called out around 12:50 a.m. to the 3700-block of Highway BB in southern Butler County, in reference to a possible trespasser or prowler.
When the officer was doing a security sweep of the area, a person fired shots at him. The sheriff's office tells Region 8 News the officer responded to the threat, by firing his own gun and killing the individual.
The officer involved in this shooting was placed on paid administrative leave until further investigation. The investigation was turned over to Missouri State Highway Patrol after a request by Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs.
The Butler County Sheriff's Department said they are not releasing the name of the person killed or the officer involved.
