A Better Region 8: Challenging youth in summer

What did you do during the summers as a teen or college student? It's a good question.

High school and college students are busier now than they seemed to be when I was their age.  They just spent the last 9 months studying, taking tests and doing projects for many subjects at the same time.

Then, if they're involved in outside things like sports, church, theater you name it, the hours they put in can leave them with little time to do anything but eat and sleep.

They need some down time, but they also need to understand that life is busy.  Encourage your teen or college student to stay engaged this summer. Help them get a part-time job. If they don't work, enroll them in a summer reading program or lead them to volunteer at their church of civic organization.

Keeping our teens and college students involved this summer will show them great benefit!  Race car driver Stirling Moss said it well, "it is necessary to relax your muscles when you can. Relaxing your brain is fatal."

Let's keep our youth challenged in the summer months, doing so will help them and make this A Better Region 8.
