Dog shot, killed in Craighead Co. over the weekend

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Craighead County sheriff's deputy was called out to a shooting where a dog was killed Sunday afternoon. No charges were filed.

According to an incident report, the dog was shot by a resident on Craighead County Road 458 Saturday night.

Deputy Brannen Hollis said he made contact with the resident who shot the dog and was told the dog "charged towards him in an aggressive manner forcing him to shoot the animal." The man also told Hollis the dog had bitten him and his children on different occasions. He also said the same dog chased his wife from the yard to her vehicle.

The man said he had spoken with his neighbors about keeping the dog locked up several times.

While investigating, the deputy talked with a different neighbor who also said the dog was aggressive.

Hollis soon found the dog across the road from where it had been shot. The officer contacted the dog's owners, told them about the incident and told them they could get the animal after he took pictures of the scene.
