WYNNE, AR  (KAIT) – A Cross County man is charged with capital murder after a man was shot to death earlier this year. He appears in court Thursday and was ordered to reappear back to court in July.

Detective Mike Smith of the Wynne Police Department told Region 8 News that Brandon L. Purnell, 32, of Wynne turned himself into police after the preliminary investigation. Smith said Kevin Stegall was shot several times and later died.

According to Smith, officers with the Wynne Police Department responded to a vacant lot at 1021 West Cogbill. When officers arrived on scene, they began conducting interviews with witnesses.

Witnesses reportedly told officers that Stegall and Purnell were arguing before the shooting.

Purnell was formally charged with capital murder.
