Van softball falls to La Grange in state championship game

AUSTIN, TX (KLTV) - The Van Lady Vandals fell short in their bid for the 3A state softball championship Saturday morning at McCombs Field in Austin.  La Grange defeated Van 7-3 to take home the 2014 state crown.

La Grange took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and led 6-0 after four innings.  Van showed some life in the fifth inning,  when Hallee Carter hit a two run double.  The Lady Vandals would score three runs in the inning, but it would not be enough. 

La Grange pitcher Marissa Zoch improved to 31-0 for the season, limiting the Lady Vandals to just three runs and six hits.  Van had scored 15 runs in their state semifinal win over Snyder on Thursday.
