MEMPHIS (KAIT) - The FedEx St. Jude Classic will feature over 100 of the best golfers in the world. A Jonesboro and Razorback alum will be in the field in Memphis.
Austin Cook fired a 65 Sunday to earn one of 4 qualifying spots for the PGA Tour event. The bogey-free round featured five birdies. The Open Qualifier was contested at the Windyke Country Club. Cook, Eric Axley, Grant Leaver, & Dustin Morris fill the final spots in the FESJC field.
To even make it to Sunday's Open Qualifier, Cook had to compete in the Pre-Qualifier on Friday. He shot a 65 to top the 153-man field. 43 golfers advanced to the Open Qualifier.
This breakthrough follows a decorated college career at Arkansas. A two-time Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Cook earned all-America honors as a sophomore when he finished 10th individually at the NCAA Championship. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2010 and been a mainstay in the Razorback lineup throughout his four-year career with 48 tournaments played, a 73.37 career stroke average and nine top 10 finishes. Over the last three years, Cook's score has counted toward Arkansas' team score 89 times in 105 rounds (84.7%). In 2013 he was the runner-up at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional, a placing that earned him all-central region accolades, and posted Arkansas' second best stroke average at 73.00.
The FedEx St. Jude Classic starts Thursday at TPC Southwind. The first two rounds will be televised on The Golf Channel (2pm-5pm). CBS will have FESJC coverage on Saturday and Sunday (2pm-5pm).
