A Better Region 8: Safe behind the wheel

We've covered some sad news the past few days. Deadly crashes on Region 8 roads serve as a wake up call to all of us who get behind the wheel.

Four people died in an accident Monday morning in Greene County when their car drove off the road and hit a tree. A 21-year-old man was killed when his car ran off the road and burned in Clay County. A Harrisburg Volleyball Coach died when she crashed into a water filled ditch.

It deeply saddens us to see so many lives lost in such a short time. All were one vehicle accidents.

We can take guesses as to how they happened, but what's important is that the roads can be dangerous. They're busier in the summer. Our harsh winter created lots of additional potholes. The local and state governments are fixing them as best they can.

But we need to do our part to keep our roads safe. Pay attention. Slow down. Stay off the phone. Report potholes to those who can fix them. Call police when you see others driving dangerously.

Taking these precautions could save your life, the lives of your family and friends and make this A Better and SAFER Region 8.
