JONESBORO, AR  (KAIT) – A former school teacher was found not guilty on charges of second degree assault in Craighead County District Court, according to court documents.

Linda Stephens, 59, of Jonesboro was found not guilty by district Judge Curt Huckaby Monday. Stephens taught at the Microsociety Magnet School and was caught on camera dragging a special needs student down a hallway in March.

She was then cited by Jonesboro Police for misdemeanor assault.

The Jonesboro Public School Board voted unanimously to uphold the recommendation to terminate Stephens' contract.

Surveillance video captured Stephens dragging the boy by the ankles into a classroom. According to the initial police report, the incident started when the special needs student refused to go to class.
