RIVERSIDE, MO (KCTV) -

A motorcyclist was killed after crashing in a construction zone on Interstate 635.

The accident happened just before 11 p.m. Saturday near the Highway 9 exit.

The Missouri State High Patrol identified the motorcyclist as 34-year-old Robert J. Beecher, of Kansas City.

Troopers say Beecher attempted to avoid another car and hit the brakes. He then lost control and flipped over.

Beecher died at the scene. Authorities say he was wearing a helmet.

Witnesses told officers they thought the bike hit the back of another vehicle, but troopers say that wasn't the case.

"It looked like the motorcycle crashed into the rear of the other vehicle. That's not what happened. After our investigation, basically the vehicle went end over end," Cpl. Carl Taibi said.

According to highway patrol, no one else was involved in the crash.

"[We] would like Robert to be remembered as a beloved son, a wonderful husband, proud father, awesome brother and generous friend that will be missed by anyone that had their lives touched by him," the family said in a written statement.

Beecher leaves behind a wife and four children.
