Henrico teen shot multiple times with BB gun

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

A Henrico teen out skateboarding with friends on Saturday night ended up being shot six times in the leg in an attempted robbery.

Police were called to Creighton Road Plaza after the teen, Cade, was shot six times with a BB gun in an attempted robbery.

For Cade, 14, and his friends, skateboarding in Creighton Road Plaza is a typical Saturday night. He said the group never goes anywhere alone. But on Saturday, their usual Saturday night plans took a turn for the worse

Cade said just as they started skating, they were approached by a suspicious man.

"He had a shirt over his face and stuff, and I was thinking, 'What is going on?'" he said. "As he stepped up he had gun right here and he was holding it."

Cade said the masked man then demanded everyone give up their money and cell phones. The teens all complied.

But then, Cade decided to take matters into his own hands.

"I came right up here, and then I hit him in the back of his head with my skateboard," he said. "I think he shot me a few times in the chest, here, there and I have a few on my arm right here."

Cade later got his phone back, but now admits hitting the robber wasn't a smart move. He had to be taken to the hospital and was interviewed by police. It was then that Cade and his parents understood the severity of this crime.

Though the gun used BBs rather than bullets, the family said police told them the matter would be handled as if it were any other shooting.

Now Cade wants others to know and understand that even though he was not struck by bullets, the outcome could've been much worse and needs to be taken seriously.

"These are real guns," he said. "These are real things that can hurt you and its not something to play around with."
