KENNETT, MO (KAIT/KFVS) - A Kennett man charged in the deadly shooting of another man appeared in court Tuesday.

A judge assigned Jeremy Corcoran, 37, a public defender. He is set to be back in court on July 15 at 9 a.m.

According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff, charges have been filed for murder in the second degree and armed criminal action against Corcoran.

The shooting happened Saturday night around 8:00 p.m. in the 500 block of South Hopper Street. The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Andy Tijerina, who was the stepson of a Kennett police officer.

Captain Tim Trowbridge with Kennett Police Department said Corcoran and Tijerina were having a heated argument that resulted in a shooting.

"Officers shortly there arrived and discovered the body of Andy Tijerina there on the scene," Trowbridge said. "Officers then made contact with the suspect who there also on the scene, Jeremy Corcoran and they immediately took him into custody, secured the weapon, secured the scene and called out the rest of the investigators."

According to police, Corcoran shot Tijerina multiple times in the body with a 9 mm pistol.

"As with all investigations we always look to add everything, all the evidence and sometimes it might take a little bit more time than others but it's an ongoing investigation," Trowbridge said. "We're not ready to release any information as far as a motive but I will say these guys knew each other, there was a connection there basically they got into a heated argument and it resulted in a shooting."

Corcoran is being held in the Dunklin County jail without bond. If anybody has any information on Saturday's shooting, Trowbridge is asking that you call the Kennett Police Dept.

Funeral arrangements for Tijerina have been released. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 12 at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett, Mo. The funeral services will start at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 12 at McDaniel Chapel. He will be buried in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.
