WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) -

A bride-to-be was scouting her rehearsal dinner location at the Oceanic Restaurant in Wrightsville Beach when she ended up saving a man from drowning on Saturday afternoon.

Haley Todd and her fiancé Marcus Kitts were on the beach after finishing up some wedding planning to prepare for their upcoming nuptials in two weeks.

Todd overheard some beach-goers talking about a man snorkeling in the water. This immediately triggered a red flag for the bride. Todd shot up and ran into the water to pull out a 40 year-old unconscious man. Her fiancé Marcus jumped in to help. Water rescue officials said the man may have hit his head on a sandbar. He is suffering from scrapes, bruises, and a spinal injury. His condition is unknown.

"I immediately just went with my instinct and ran" said Todd, "I thought, check the eyes, check the mouth check the pulse, and check all of the vital signs."

A swimmer and surfer with EMT experience, Todd said she believes it was not a coincidence she was at Wrightsville Beach at the time.

"It was definitely fate for me to be sitting right here so close to the man," said Todd, "God puts people in other people's life for a reason."

This bride said she will never forget these eventful weeks leading up to her big day, "when people say weddings are crazy I didn't think this is what they are talking about." said Todd.

Todd, Kitts and their families will return to Wrightsville Beach in two weeks to tie the knot.
