SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC) - A Memphis neighborhood was on lockdown Monday, as the streets lined with police and deputy cruisers.

It all started after Shelby County Sheriff Office deputies tried to serve a warrant at a home.

Included among those on the scene, a mother worried about her son who was holed up in a house surround by police.

"And we feel like we could save his life," said the mother. "That's all we ask is to try to talk to him. At least get him out of the house without them trying to shoot him or whatever."

SCSO investigators say they were trying to serve a series of warrants at 872 Maple Drive when someone shot at them. They then returned fire and were shot at again, although no one got hit.

"It was tense for everybody," said Chip Washington, SCSO's Public Information Officer.

Around 1:30 p.m., a big cheer went up at Jackson Avenue and Maple when sheriff's deputies announced that everything had ended and everyone was safe.

Deputies arrested all five people who were at the house. Officials say the accused triggerman, eventually identified as Rodenick Winston, 24, initially refused to give up. Nearly two full hours passed before he was arrested.

Winston was charged with two counts of attempted murder and theft of property over $1,000 dollars.

"Our first mindset and goal in situations like this is not to be violent, but to end this peacefully," added Washington. "One of his friends got on the phone with his mother and spoke with him, his sister spoke with him as well; I think in a collective and collaborative effort were able to secure this scene safely."

The names of the other four men have not yet been released.
