JONESBORO, AR  (KAIT) – Jonesboro police arrested a woman who thought her child was possessed by the devil, according to an incident report filed on Sunday afternoon.

According to Jonesboro police, Cristina G. Sykes, 25, of Jonesboro was arrested on charges of domestic battery and endangering the welfare of a minor after bruises were found on her six-year-old son.

According to the report, the boy's father, Xavier Johnson, went to the Caraway Commons apartments when he got a call from his sister. His sister said Anita Henry watched the children for Sykes.

Henry told police that the boy's mother asked if she could take him to the hospital "because the kids had demons in them." Henry also said Sykes hit her son in the chest while she drove them to the hospital.

Johnson called Sykes and asked her about the accusations. He said Sykes told him about the demons and that the "kids flesh was in the trees."

Johnson told officers that he had been contacted the Arkansas Department of Human Services about the Sykes and nothing has been done.

Sykes was arrested later Sunday night. Her other children were left in custody of a neighbor since no other relatives could keep them.

Sykes was given a July 31 court appearance.
