Get Your Free Credit Report

November 17, 2004--Posted at 6:30 am CDT

Jonesboro, AR--So you want to know your credit score?  Who doesn’t?  What the credit card companies don’t want you to know is that you are not only entitled to a free credit report, it is fairly easy to get.

The hardest part of getting a credit score is often times figuring out whom to call.  There are three major credit reporting agencies.  They are Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian.  Sometimes all three credit agencies are used for credit or sometimes just one is used.  Either way it is important to know what is on each one of these credit reports.

Once you receive your credit report you can take several steps to improve your score.  Obviously pay off all overdue balances as soon as possible.  Be punctual.  Watch your debt.  Give yourself time to improve things and avoid excessive inquires.  These steps should get you back on track to a better credit score.

In order to order your free yearly credit report you can call Equifax at 1-800-685-1111.  The Experian phone number is 1-888-397-3742.  TransUnion can be contacted by calling 1-800-888-4213.  Once you call you are usually required to send in a copy of your drivers license with a letter of request for your credit.

And finally for those who dislike receiving all those pre-approved credit card offers you can call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT.
