Death of 14-day-old baby ruled accidental suffocation

BROOKLAND, AR  (KAIT) – No charges will be filed against the parents of a two-week-old baby girl, according to investigators with the Craighead County Sheriff's Office.

Detective Gary Etter said the Arkansas State Crime Lab ruled the death of the girl as an accidental suffocation. The baby died at a Jonesboro hospital last Friday morning.

According to the police report, the mother had put her child around some pillows Friday morning and went outside. When she came back inside, she found her baby turning blue.

Etter said it appears the child rolled over and suffocated on the pillows.

The crime lab did not find any injuries to the child that would indicate foul play.
