City responds to minor sewage spill

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill south of Talmadge Bridge Sunday afternoon.

This spill happened around 3:15 p.m. and was the result of a defective air release valve. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 50 gallons.

The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The valve was shut off and repaired.

Jet-Vac trucks removed sewage and drainage water and was contained to keep residual flows from entering the storm system and the canal. Sampling was done.

All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
