Columbus man charged with fiance's murder pleads not guilty

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus man accused of shooting and killing his fiance is now behind bars charged with murder.

The suspect, 23-year-old Vashon Walker, was featured in News Leader 9's Most Wanted Segment back in 2012 when he had 16 warrants out for previous crimes. Some of these warrants were for domestic disputes and family violence, such as kidnapping and false imprinsonment. 

Officials said Columbus police were dispatched to a home on Forrest Road on the corner of Reese Road on what they thought was a home invasion around 7 p.m. on June 17, 2014.

When police arrived, they found 28-year-old Jessica Osborne, who authorities say had been shot in the head. She was pronounced dead by Coroner Buddy Bryan at 7:50 p.m. at her home. Osborne was suffering from a gunshot wound on the left side of her head. They found a .45 caliber pistol in the back yard.

Officials say her fiance, Vashon Walker, was sitting on the front porch covered in blood when Columbus Police arrived at the scene.

Walker and Osborne moved into their home on Forrest Road last Friday, and the two had been living together.

Wendy Hyde, 30, lives a few blocks away from Osborne's home and said she was shocked by what happened Tuesday night.

"It's normally a safe neighborhood," Hyde said. "So this worried me a little bit. The couple had moved in few days ago, and we haven't heard much about the couple or seen them at all. But I do remember seeing them arguing out in the yard Tuesday..."

Hyde said she was in her backyard watching over her children when she saw police cars rush to the house.

"When police brought the guy out, he was yelling 'she's alright, she's alright, she'll be fine.' But I saw the coroner's vehicle and thought no, she's not okay," Hyde said. "He seemed upset with what had happened, but he kept repeating that she was alright."

This is the twelfth homicide in Columbus this year. Osborne was from Mississippi, and she leaves behind three daughters. 

Walker pleaded not guilty in Recorder's Court.
