ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The investigation into a 10-year-old child's mysterious death took a new turn Wednesday night, when WALB confirmed previous child abuse allegations involving the boy.

Family members claimed 10-year-old Brandon Price became ill at their home on Madeline Road on May 3rd. They took him to the hospital, but he was declared dead when they arrived.

WALB has learned DFACS investigated claims that Price was abused in 2009, but no charges were filed.

District Attorney Greg Edwards said Wednesday night that the medical examiner ruled additional forensics tests were needed following the autopsy on Price's body.

He said it could be 60 days before those tests are back and a cause of death is determined.

While investigators say there is some evidence of a crime, they need the final autopsy report to determine exactly what happened to the boy and who might be responsible.

Authorities said court proceedings to determine custody for three other children who were living in the home are ongoing.
