BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) – A group of Region 8 graduates had jobs waiting for them immediately after they finished high school.
Twelve Blytheville High School seniors were offered full-time jobs at Kinder Morgan after interning with the company.
"I wasn't expecting a job offer. I thought they were just going to say, 'Get your certificate for completing the class,'" said Brianna Wilson.
The students were part of Blytheville High School's Career and Technical Internship program. Instructor and internship coordinator Jennifer Haley said the program is a pilot for BHS and Kinder Morgan.
"It's taking our high school student in the classroom environment to career ready, high performance work environment," said Haley. "We sat down and came up with some particulars about what we really wanted our students to learn and gain from this work experience."
Shonta Green plans to pursue a long term career at Kinder Morgan. "They help you go to college and the pay is good," he said.
Wilson said the opportunity will help her continue to provide for her four-year-old daughter. She wants to take advantage of tuition reimbursement the company provides.
"Not too many companies want young kids fresh out of high school," she said. "A lot of people are shocked because I'm a girl and they think every factory job is for a man and I just prove them wrong."
The internship program started January 2014 and will continue next year.
