Arkansas man sentenced for illegally owning machine gun

LITTLE ROCK, AR  (KAIT) – A Region 8 man avoided jail time Friday after he was sentenced to probation after his conviction of illegally owning a working machine gun, according to the Eastern District of the U.S. District Court.

According to the court, Kerry Wayne Evans, 55, of Hardy was sentenced to three years of probation, six months in home detention and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment fine. He was also ordered to pay $4,000 in additional fines.

Evans, who plead guilty to the charges in federal court earlier this year, is one of the stars in the Discovery Channel reality television show, "Clash of the Ozarks."

In Arkansas, the maximum penalty for owning an unregistered machine gun is 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
