Flash flood reported in areas of Jonesboro, Craighead Co. Saturday

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A very localized thunderstorm created a flash flood in areas of Jonesboro and Craighead County Saturday afternoon.

Areas in east and northeast Jonesboro saw creeks and ditches flow outside their banks as several inches of rain fell in a short period of time. Some minor street flooding and standing water in yards were common for several hours following the storm.

No injuries were reported from the flash flood. The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning around 3:15pm. Small hail and strong winds were reported with the storm. It dumped enough rain in the same area for the NWS to issue a Flash Flood Warning. This warning meant conditions were imminent for flash flooding to occur given the heavy rainfall over a short time.
