Family celebrates survival of baby Miracle

Yvonne Johnson Yvonne Johnson

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – On May 13, Yvonne Johnson was rushed to the hospital following a deadly shooting and woke up to Miracle, her now 1-month old daughter delivered via emergency C-section.

On Saturday, Johnson's family got together to remember a cousin who was gunned down in 2004, as they do every year. This year, however, they also celebrated the survival of Johnson and Miracle – a symbol that the family cannot be defeated by violence, "only hindered," Earl Murphy Sr., said.

Miracle was named by her father and Johnson's sister while Johnson was still unconscious from the surgery. "I couldn't deny it. It was a miracle for both of us," Johnson said.

Tyjuan Romel Moody, 24, is accused of shooting Johnson and 29-year-old Richard Spencer, who was pronounced dead at University Hospital. Moody faces several charges, including murder.

Baby Miracle is doing well, Johnson said. "She's doing alright. She's growing like a normal baby."
