Local teen seriously injured in crash

 MALDEN, MO (KAIT) – A Region 8 teen was seriously hurt Thursday when she pulled her car into the path of an oncoming SUV.

According to Trooper J.B. Doyle of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Route J, two miles west of Malden.

Sydney N. Hooten, 18, of Gideon was southbound when pulled into the path of a 2008 Chevy Tahoe driven by Jane V. McLeod of Malden.

McLeod’s SUV slammed into the driver’s side of Hooten’s 1995 Buick Sentra, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

Both women were taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Doyle said Hooten suffered serious injuries, McLeod’s injuries were described as “moderate.”
