SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A wanted man out of Indiana was arrested on Thursday after officers found him camping out in Sharp County.

According to Sheriff Mark Counts, a landowner in the Simstown area told officers a man and woman driving a red car asked to stay in nearby woods. The landowner says the man said "he needed a place to hide out until he turned himself in."

The landowner refused, but said he suggested another place after seeing a gun in the man's lap.

The Sheriff’s Department and Arkansas State Police found the man and woman, identified as Justin Petrowski and Melissa Berry, along the Strawberry River at the Pebbles Bluff Access.

During a check with dispatch, officers learned Petrowski was wanted out Indiana.

Officers also learned the car the pair was driving was stolen. According to Sheriff Counts, Petrowski had a loaded pistol on him and a shotgun in the car.

He’s now charged with theft and gun possession charges.

Berry is charged with theft.
