INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – Rain overnight and into Sunday morning flooded many highways in Independence County.
According to Independence County Office of Emergency Management Director Glen Willis, shortly after 7 a.m., they were called out to Highway 14 at Highway 25 because the road was under four feet of water. That area was closed for about two hours Sunday morning but has since then been reopened.
Willis also said another part of Highway 25 near the Heber Springs area was closed.
Highway 230 by the Locust Grove area remains closed at this time after floodwater washed over a bridge and coverts.
Willis said there are several other smaller county roads that have been closed down due to the high waters.
If you are driving and encounter a flooded road it is recommended that you do not try to drive through that road.
