ASU alum Jacob Lee gets 2nd save of 2014

Winston-Salem, N.C. ( - The Carolina Mudcats stormed back from two deficits and stunned the Winston-Salem Dash 11-9 on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. The clubs combined for 30 hits and five errors in the seesaw battle. The Mudcats improve to 5-5 in the second half, 34-43 overall. The Dash (6-4, 36-43) saw their four-game winning streak end.

Logan Vick, Yandy Diaz, Jeremy Lucas and Alex Monsalve all plated two RBI for the Mudcats. All 18 batters to see the plate came away with a base hit.

Michael Peoples (4-7) was the beneficiary of the gritty comeback. The right-hander held the Dash to an unearned run, despite five hits, across 3 2/3 innings of work in relief. Jacob Lee worked around a single in the ninth to record his second save. Braulio Ortiz (0-8) suffered the loss. The right-hander gave up two inherited runners and allowed one of his own in the pivotal eighth.

Trailing 9-7, the Mudcats went to work against reliever Euclides Leyer. Luigi Rodriguez began the frame with a single to left and advanced to second when Courtney Hawkins bobbled the grounder in the outfield. Jerrud Sabourin drew a walk before Ortiz relieved Leyer.

James Roberts moved the runners over with a bunt for Alex Monsalve. Carolina's backstop lashed a double into the left field corner to score both Rodriguez and Sabourin. Ortiz uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Monsalve to move to third. Logan Vick put the Mudcats up for good with a sac-fly to right.

The Mudcats added an insurance run off David Putman in the ninth. Yandy Diaz reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second when Joey DeMichele's throw from second sailed into the home dugout. Diaz advanced to third and eventually scored on two wild pitches for the final margin.
