Minimal damage reported after tornado warning issued for parts of KC

FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -

No damage was reported after severe storms, including tornadoes, roared through western Missouri.

The storms had plenty of bark but thankfully little bite. Some trees were knocked down in the Liberty area and a roof was blown off a building at 1170 Kansas Ave. No one was inside the office building when winds ripped off the roof.

A tornado warning was issued for parts of Jackson, Clay and Ray counties after radar indicated a tornado was near Liberty about 9:30 p.m. Monday. The warning was allowed to lapse by 10 p.m.

Severe storms brought heavy rain, high winds and small hail. Some power outages were reported and trees knocked down.

This followed after the National Weather Service had issued Monday afternoon a tornado watch for much of the KCTV5 viewing area, including Kansas City. The watch was canceled just before 11:30 p.m. Monday.

A tornado skipped over parts of northwest Missouri Monday evening including Gentry, Harrison and Mercer counties. No damage was reported.

Daviess, Grundy and Sullivan counties were included in a later tornado warning issued about 8:15 p.m.
