Rape suspect appears in court Thursday

GASSVILLE, AR (KAIT) – A Region 8 man who police said admitted to the rape of two young girls appeared in court Thursday.

Brian A. Maxwell, 38, of Gassville is charged with two counts of rape-under 14 years of age and one count sexual assault in the second degree. All of the charges are felonies. His case was continued to a plea and arraignment date of September 18, 2014.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery said his office received information that Maxwell had engaged in sexual contact with two girls, ages 9 and 4.

Following several interviews, detectives executed a search warrant at Maxwell’s home Tuesday afternoon.

Montgomery said officers a computer and some thumb drives from the home.

Deputies took Maxwell into custody for questioning.

During his interview, Montgomery said Maxwell “admitted to the accusations made against him.”

He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center in lieu of $250,000 bond.
