Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police say a "significant" gas line rupture occurred in the Northland.

Thirty residences in the area of 45th Street and Jackson Avenue were evacuated. Firefighters say a two-block radius was evacuated.

This occurred just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The streets were blocked off in an area bounded by 45th and 46th streets and Cypress and Jackson avenues.

A contract worker for the Kansas City Water Department struck the 2-inch gas line owned by Missouri Gas Energy.

Residents were allowed back into their homes by 2 p.m. Wednesday.
