Another sheriff's department warns of phone scam

SEARCY, AR (KAIT) – A sheriff’s department is warning residents of a potential scam in the area.

The White County Sheriff’s Department stated Wednesday a phone scammer is posing as law enforcement. The scam involves someone calling residents and saying the person has a warrant issued for their arrest for failing to appear for jury duty.

The caller, who may go by “Scott or Paul Gamble”, then requests a cash payment in order to keep the victim out of jail.

The department says residents should not send any money or agree to send any money to the person calling.

Call the White County Sheriff’s Department at (501) 279-6279 or (501) 279-6241 to report the phone call if you receive it. The department is currently investigating the scam.

This scam has also been reported in Craighead County this week as well.
