Woman found in Little Rock after going missing Sunday morning

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The woman who walked away from a Jonesboro facility has been found, according to the Jonesboro Human Development Center. Vernetta Adams, 20, of Jonesboro, left the center Sunday morning when a caregiver was not looking. According to the center, Adams was found in Little Rock.

According to an incident report from Little Rock, Adams called police from a McDonalds asking for a place to live. When officers arrived, they ran her name through the database and found that Adams was reported missing by the Jonesboro Police Department.  Little Rock Police officers then called the Jonesboro Human Development Center and she was taken back to the facility.

JHDC told Region 8 News that Adams walked away from the facility Sunday morning at about 9:20. The center also said Adams walked off the premises in less than a minute.

Monday, residents of a nearby neighborhood questioned the security of the facility. They were concerned about a mental health patient walking away from the facility.

“It's not a bad place, but at the same time they still need to be aware of their surroundings and the people in the neighborhood,” said Nicholas McFarland, who lives in the neighborhood.
Kim Tribble has lived in the area for more than 10 years. She said she's never felt unsafe, but this incident concerned her. She questioned why she wasn't notified of the incident.

“I don't want to invade her privacy by any means, but I have to think about my child,” said Tribble. ”I think notes should have been left on doors or we should have been contacted personally.”

According to the center, medical personnel are checking on Adams but she is okay overall.

It was reported late Sunday afternoon that Adams had been found safe, but the information provided to Region 8 News was incorrect. Adams was spotted Sunday afternoon on a bus in North Little Rock. Adams was found safe Monday in central Arkansas.
