Jonesboro council approves bid for storm debris removal

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The Jonesboro City Council approved a bid for the removal of storm debris from the severe windstorm in June at a specially called meeting Wednesday afternoon.

The Public Works Committee passed a resolution to hire DRC Emergency Services, based out of Mobile, AL, for $270,000. The company has been given 45 days to clean up storm debris from residential plots of land. The project will be paid for from the city's general fund.

Cleanup will begin on Monday morning.

Mayor Harold Perrin called the special meeting earlier this week to address the cleanup process.

Jonesboro and many surrounding areas were hit hard by a windstorm on June 5, 2014. Many homes were damaged or destroyed and power was knocked out for nearly a week in some areas.

According to the Jonesboro E911 Center, which covers Craighead County, 45 power poles were knocked down in the storm.
