JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A local woman named Region 8 Teacher of the Month for January and Teacher of the Year has donated her award to a charity that helps provide clean water to children.

Janet Schug, who was named Region 8 Teacher of the Year in June, told Region 8 News that she donated a check for $375 to Water for Life, an organization that works to provide better hygiene and improve water practices around the world.

Schug has taught at Brookland Elementary School for 38 years and retired at the end of the school year.

Schug said her children collected change and donated it to the organization so that children and their families would have clean water.
