I'm Chris Conroy, Vice President and General manager of KAIT. I am a huge college football fan and I can't wait to experience my first season watching A State football.
But this week, The St. Louis Sports Commission asked A State to move its home game with Mizzou to the city's Edward Jones Dome. Red Wolves athletic director Terry Mohajir says the commission has offered his school a "significant" amount of money to relocate the game from Jonesboro to St. Louis.
While I certainly understand A State's need for extra revenue, I think they should think about the impact on Region 8. Playing the game here means the university still makes revenue. Local restaurants, hotels and businesses all depend on these games for revenue too. And let's not forget about the fans who support the university by purchasing tickets with their hard earned money.
If they move the game to St. Louis, our businesses won't get the revenue they depend on, the fans will have to drive a long distance to support their team and Region 8 loses. We support A State, I think it's fair that they support us, the community. A State should stay local and keep the game here in Jonesboro.
Looking at the bigger picture and taking care of our local community first will make this A Better Region 8.
