Ross, Hutchinson spar over wage, health care

HOT SPRINGS, AR (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mike Ross and Republican Asa Hutchinson have clashed over the minimum wage and the federal health care overhaul in a debate before the Arkansas Press Association.

Ross on Friday criticized Hutchinson for not supporting a ballot measure to gradually raise the state's minimum wage, saying the GOP candidate doesn't support letting voters decide the issue. Hutchinson said he wants the minimum wage raised to at least the federal level, but says the matter should be decided by the Legislature.

Hutchinson accused Ross of trying to play both sides of the issue of the health care law, criticizing him for supporting a version of health care legislation in committee. Ross said Hutchinson is misleading voters, noting he voted against the health overhaul.
