JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - There is a shortage of mosquito spray in Region 8.

Dollar General employee Brandi Williams said supply is low at the store on North Church Street and at other Dollar Generals in Jonesboro.

"We got the Cutter (Skinsations insect repellent) twin pack in Wednesday and now we only have five left."

Even though Williams ordered extra spray before the Fourth of July, repellent for flying insects, specifically mosquitoes, has been flying off the shelves.

"Couldn't keep it in stock. Customers kept coming in, as soon as we put it on the shelf, it was gone."

A Walmart spokeswoman said in an email statement, "Due to the favorable weather conditions, we are experiencing unexpected insect repellent demand. We are working with our suppliers and expediting product to the stores to provide for our customer's needs."

In addition to the sprays, Mark Poe uses a couple of household items to keep away what some call the state bird of Arkansas.

"We live fairly close to the St. Francis River bottom. So, usually at dark it's time to be getting inside but it's gotten here lately to where in the middle of the afternoon even, it's still ridiculous," he said.

"The Fabuloso oil spray, it's an all-purpose cleaner we get mostly at the dollar store. Just mix it up in a spray bottle, spray it around the door. And we've also been using the lavender dryer sheets that we use to wipe the kids down when they go out in the afternoons."
