LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WVUE) -- -

A man trying to cross a highway in Lafourche Parish was killed after being hit by a pickup truck. The incident occurred Sunday around 1:30 a.m. on Highway 657 in Larose.

According to a Louisiana State Police, Troop C spokesperson, the victim, a 38-year-old Hispanic man, tried to cross the highway, just north of Hwy 308 when he was hit and killed. The driver of the truck, identified as 32-year-old Elmer Lagos of Galliano, was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured. The Lafourche Parish Coroner pronounced the 38-year-old dead on the scene. His identity will be released once family members are notified.

Police say that Lagos submitted to a breath test, which showed no signs of alcohol in his system. Toxicology tests will be performed to determine if the deceased man was impaired. Lagos has not been charged.

The crash is still under investigation.
